SIMILAR MUSIC VIDEOS TO WHAT I WANT TO CREATE

Travis Scott - SICKO MODE ft. Drake

Directed by Dave Meyers, this music video employs extremely high grade camerawork, cinematics and special effects. I would love to be able to replicate some of these effects in my own video, however due to my budget constraints and lack of editing software, computer performance and equipment it will be nearly impossible. This music video is set in a rough looking American neighbourhood and exclusively features black actors, but there are also some scenes set in contrasting locations, such as inside an expensive car, in front of a blackboard, and next to a swimming pool. The mise en scene includes fashionable clothing and jewellery, as well as typical expectations of a poorer neighbourhood in America (trash, flaming barrels, graffiti, shuttered shops etc.) As this music video does not share much in common with what I am planning to include in my own one, I am mainly using it as inspiration for camerawork and special effects.

K.A.A.N - Water

This music video features a setting similar to the one I want to portray. It is set in a forest, with just one actor. This deviates from other videos from the same genre as the artist is not showing off using materialistic items such as money and clothes. My initial idea for the setting of my music video is to contrast urban life with life in nature, hinting at the name of the song "After Life". "Water" shares a similar setting and mise-en-scene to the one I want to portray, so it is useful to analyse this video. Personally I find this video quite repetitive and boring, as there is not much progression in the video or any story to speak of. Perhaps the artist would prefer for his music to represent him instead of the video to go with.

Years & Years - Desire (Gryffin Remix)

This video features similar settings and effects which I want to include in my video. It features natural settings and crazy patterns, turning an ordinary scene into mesmerising and supernatural patterns. The video also focuses on historic architecture, giving the impression of Italy/Greece/Spain etc. Using slow motion video, the scenes appear more dramatic and gives the viewer more time to take in the scene. I would like to utilise slow motion video in my own video, however only where I want to convey important details in the scene.
